Unmercenary Sacred MusicMusic of Roman Rite |
From 1992 to 1996, I was a member of the Order of Friars minor. During that time, I discovered a real lack of available texts set to music for the Liturgy of the Hours for the Roman Rite. I was an Eastern Christian living amongst Romans. So I delved into Gregorian chant and began setting texts to both Gregorian melodies and Byzantine-Slavonic melodies. I also wrote several small antiphon melodies and Psalm tones. This list is most of that work. Roman Catholics who visit here will find modern texts using time-honored music. There is no real innovation here, but most Roman Catholics will find much of this new or unknown. Roman ministers of music, it is of great worth for you to discover the wealth of liturgical beauty in the Liturgy of the Hours. By integrating such information into your liturgical life, you will find the fuller, more orthodox understanding of what it means to worship God in "Spirit and truth."1 Please take advantage of the experience and work of my Romano-Seraphic years.
